WebJul 7, 2012 · When mine did the thick white fogging cloud is was the egr cooler. Just took it home bit the bullet and fixed all known problems. Yea i talk to a PowerStoke mechanic he said the white smoke he said it was the EGR cooler as well..he said change that out but also said to change the Oil cooler as well..

But it only seems to happen when the engine is cold or has been sitting awhile. Moisture causes white smoke. A lean condition will not be discernable through the exhaust. Smoke from oil is heavy. So, after reving the engine and as the smoke appears, it should linger if it is oil related. It should be present if idling, for a while, even if the engine is warm. When riding at 50mph speed it runs ok but almost stop.
